The Ukrainian agricultural holding “Hals Agro” is the first in Ukraine to use its own biomethane instead of natural gas for sugar production. This was announced by Serhiy Kravchuk, CEO of the “Hals Agro” at the Forbes Agro 2026 conference.

The holding includes 2 sugar factories in the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions. The company grows sugar beet directly near the factories. Having its own raw material base allows it to control product quality and logistics. The annual sugar beet processing capacity is 480,000 tons.

“Hals Agro” is the first producer of industrial biomethane in Ukraine. The company began producing biomethane in 2023 in Chernihiv region. The total annual capacity of the plant is 3 million m3 of biomethane. The plant is connected to the natural gas distribution grid. In 2025, the company began exporting biomethane to the EU. This year, “Hals Agro” plans to launch another biomethane plant with a total capacity of 3 million m3/year in the Kyiv region.
