BIOMETHAVERSE was presented by Stefano Proietti (ISINNOVA) at the Horizon Europe clustering workshop on aviation, maritime fuels and biomethane projects, organised by CINEA in Brussels on 17 March 2026.
The event gathered 36 EU-funded projects working on renewable fuels for transport, with the aim of strengthening collaboration, identifying synergies, and aligning communication and dissemination activities across initiatives.
During the session, BIOMETHAVERSE showcased its innovative approach to enhancing biomethane production through advanced Power-to-Methane pathways. The presentation highlighted key results from the project’s pilot activities across Europe, including progress in electromethanogenesis and biological methanation, as well as BIOMETHAVERSE’s next steps towards optimisation and scale-up.
A central element of the presentation was the INSPIRE™ methodology, developed to assess replication potential and support the deployment of biomethane solutions across Europe. By evaluating technical, economic and contextual conditions, INSPIRE™ provides decision-support tools for investors and plant operators, helping translate pilot results into real-world applications.
A key step towards stronger EU project clustering
The clustering workshop, led by CINEA, represents an important initiative to bring together Horizon Europe projects working on similar technologies, feedstocks and end-use sectors.
This coordinated approach enables:
- enhanced knowledge sharing and cross-project learning,
- identification of synergies and collaboration opportunities,
- alignment with EU policy developments,
- support for scaling up solutions through instruments such as the Innovation Fund.
For BIOMETHAVERSE, participation in this initiative is particularly valuable. It strengthens the project’s integration within the European biomethane landscape and fosters collaboration with complementary projects, ultimately contributing to accelerating the deployment of innovative renewable fuel solutions.
